Over 70,000 80,000 chemicals are in use today - many developed after
World War II. We know from research and observation that even “low
doses” of many chemicals singly or in combination, cause a wide
variety of illnesses. Our most vivid, current example are chemically
sensitive individuals exposed to chemicals and many of them now
present with multiple symptoms from skin disorders to chronic
fatigue and poor memory. Chelation Medical Center is able to help
many of these Individuals who are suffering from chemical exposures
with many diverse and undiagnosed symptoms. But it doesn’t take
industrial chemical exposures to cause illness. Indoor air pollution
now exceeds outdoor air pollution as a serious medical concern and
has a negative impact on our immune system, often leading to a
condition commonly called the Sick Building Syndrome. We are exposed
to chemicals every day, and the cumulative effect of even low dose
exposures can be debilitating causing Multi-system dysfunction that
baffles physicians unfamiliar with chemical sensitivity.
In addition to chemicals, other environmental factors can cause
illness too. Allergy and sensitivity to foods, molds, pollens,
trees, grasses, and other environmental substances can cause many of
the same symptoms chemicals cause. Many people present with,
digestive disorders, skin disorders, headaches, dizziness, chronic
fatigue, heart irregularities, chronic infections, arthritis, muscle
pain, colitis/irritable bowel, depression, hyperactivity, learning
disorders, mental dysfunction, memory loss, sleep disturbance, hay
fever, asthma and the list goes on. Solving the puzzle by taking a
thorough history and through specialized laboratory work-ups and
skin testing can be a challenge and is extremely rewarding when
long-standing illness is relieved by an accurate diagnosis and
treatment.
An important diagnostic feature at Chelation Medical Center is the
preservative free antigens for skin testing. In most other offices,
the diagnosis of allergies and hypersensitivities is made using
materials prepared in chemical bases of phenol or glycerin,
confusing the results and making chemically sensitive patients even
more ill. In other offices, most often, no testing is done for
chemical sensitivity at all. For effective diagnosis and treatment,
investigations must be directed to identify a patient’s
sensitivities to chemicals and other incitants (offending
substances).
The medical approach which is concerned with the individual’s
reactions to his or her environment is known as Environmental
Medicine. Individuals who have become highly sensitive to many
substances are said to be “environmentally ill”. The goal at
Chelation Medical Center is to identify and treat those incitants
which are problematic, and if possible, help individuals modify
their home and work surroundings to reduce or eliminate elevated
chemicals and other adverse environmental conditions.
Other modes of treatment offered at Chelation Medical Center include
Intravenous (IV) Chelation and Nutritional therapy. IV Chelation
therapy has been used for over forty years to treat lead toxicity,
and other heavy metal excess. It has also been recognized to remove
atherosclerotic plaques (hardening of the arteries) from the blood
vessels in the body, making it a valuable alternative for bypass
surgery. Chelation therapy helps angina (heart pain), claudication
(leg pain) and brain circulation; it improves circulation in all
arteries of the body. It is a safe and effective treatment which is
being recognized more and more in the medical literature.
The office of Chelation medical Center, located at 51 A West Gray
Road, Gray Maine, has been carefully selected to comply with
low-toxicity building materials, heating and ventilation. The
environment is as chemically pure as possible - even non-toxic
cleaning materials are used to insure that chemically sensitive
patients are well protected.

the diagnosis and treatment of Gulf War Illness. He is a member of
the ACAM (American College for Advancement in Medicine) and the
American Academy of Environmental Medicine. He has advanced training
in the diagnosis and treatment of physical and mental illnesses
caused by environmental sensitivities. He completed his
post-graduate training in Dallas, Texas under the direct tutelage of
world renowned Dr. William Rea, M.D. at the Environmental Health
Center - Dallas, and at Tri-City Hospital. Dr. Psonak is a graduate
of the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford,
Maine, and has practiced in Maine for the past 17 years.
